The aron quartett has rapidly established an international career after
forming in 1998. All four musicians already had gained reputations as
principal players in Viennese orchestras, and as chamber music players
after studying with members of the Alban Berg Quartet, as well as Ernst
Kovacic and Heinrich Schiff. Other great musicians who played an
important role in the musician’s artistic development include Isaac
Stern, Max Rostal, William Primrose, Mischa Maisky, Ralph Kirschbaum and
Sandor Vegh, and members of the Amadeus, and La Salle Quartets.
The musical and professional intention of the quartet is to devote
itself not only to the classical string quartet literature, but
especially to the works of the Viennese School, and for this reason they
are the Quartet in Residence of the Arnold Schoenberg Center in Vienna,
where they give regular concerts throughout the season.
In 2004, they took part in the Webern Festival at the Konzerthaus when
all the works of Anton Webern were performed, and also at the newly
opened Glass Hall of the Musikverein, and the BBC in London. Their busy
schedule has included tours of Japan, Mexico, many concerts in Vienna
and the major festivals in Austria, Kuhmo in Finland, and throughout
Europe, playing an extensive repertoire of classical and modern music.
Their New York debut concert at Carnegie Hall was in 2001, followed by
debut concerts in Amsterdam, St. Petersburg, Moscow and Helsinki, and in
2002 at the Wigmore Hall, London, as well as an EBU concert which was
broadcast live in 21 European countries.
They appeared at many major Festivals throughout Europe, including
concerts in the Alban Berg Quartet series at the Konzerthaus, Vienna, at
the Leamington Festival in England, and with Sharon Kam, Bruno Canino,
Oleg Maisenberg and Philippe Entremont, which have firmly established
their reputation as one of the most interesting international quartets
in Europe.
After the Press Launch in London in March 2004 at the Austrian Cultural
Forum of their complete recordings of all the Schoenberg Quartets the
critical acclaim included reviews in the BBC 3 Magazine, the Guardian
and the Strad Magazine; the Quarterly Review of Modern Music “Tempo’’
wrote: ”a set of all Schoenberg’s string quartet music performed with
the aron quartet’s conviction, technical mastery and golden tone, and so
well recorded in such an ideal acoustic would be a prize worth
possessing, - even if it did not include two of the greatest
performances of modern chamber music on record’’.
Since then the aron quartet has been recording Cesar Franck’s piano
quintet with Philippe Entremont (Cascavelle) and has done a CD
production (ORF/cpo) of all string quartets by Erich Wolfgang Korngold
as well as the piano quintet (with Henri Sigfridsson) These works have
also been performed in a series of four concerts in the Vienna
Musikverein. In the season 2008/09 the aron quartet will again perform a
series of three concerts with works by Haydn and Martinu in the same
hall.
In October 2008 the Austrian Radio ORF will broadcast the new recordings
of Korngold and in November the aron quartet will celebrate it's 10th
anniversary with a concert at the Vienna Konzerthaus.
Le quatuor aron a été fondé en 1998 par quatre musiciens de Vienne,
Ludwig Müller, Barna Kobori, Georg Hamann et Christophe Pantillon. Ils
ont étudié avec les membres du Quatuor Alban Berg, Ernst Kovacic et
Heinrich Schiff. En outre, ils ont profité des conseils de grands
artistes tels que Yehudi Menuhin, Isaac Stern, Sandor Végh, Max Rostal,
William Primrose, Mischa Maisky et Ralph Kirshbaum.
Le quatuor aron a fait ses débuts à Vienne quelques mois seulement après
sa fondation et a été d’emblée accueilli avec enthousiasme par le public
et la presse. Depuis, il a élargi son répertoire, tout en travaillant
régulièrement avec les membres des quatuors Alban Berg, Amadeus et
Lasalle, ainsi qu’avec Heinz Holliger et Heinrich Schiff. Il a aussi eu
le privilège de collaborer avec de grands musiciens tels que Bruno
Canino, Philippe Entremont, Sharon Kam, Oleg Maisenberg, de même que
Thomas Kakuska et Valentin Erben du Quatuor Alban Berg.
En novembre 2002, le quatuor aron s’est produit à la Salle Mozart de
Vienne en tant qu’invité dans la prestigieuse série de concerts du
Quatuor Alban Berg. Depuis, il donne chaque année des concerts dans les
diverses salles du Konzerthaus.
Le quatuor aron a donné de nombreux concerts à travers l’Europe
(Allemagne, Angleterre, Autriche, Espagne, Finlande, France,
Grande-Bretagne, Hongrie, Italie, Irlande, Pologne, République tchèque,
Roumanie, Slovaquie, Slovénie, Suisse ) , aux USA, en Amérique Centrale,
au Japon, et dans le cadre de festivals réputés :
Wiener Festwochen, Festival «Klangbogen» (Vienne), Schönberg Festival
(Vienne),
Festival de Quatuors à Cordes du Lubéron, Biennale di Venezia, Festival
de Stresa,
Kuhmo Festival (Finlande), International String Quartet Festival Prag,
Festival Cervantino (Mexique), Festival "Sounding Jerusalem" etc…
En 2006, il a participé au Festival de Radio-France (Montpellier) à la
soirée «Lettres de Beethoven» avec l’acteur Gérard Depardieu.
En avril 2001, le quatuor aron a fait ses débuts à New York (Carnegie
Hall); l’année suivante, il s’est produit pour la première fois au
Wigmore Hall de Londres (où il a été réinvité en 2005 et 2006), ainsi
qu’au Conservatoire Tchaïkovski à Moscou.
En 2004, il a fait ses débuts au «Musikverein» de Vienne; en 2007, il y
a donné un cycle de 4 concerts consacrés à Korngold à l’occasion du
50ème anniversaire de la mort du compositeur. Il s'est produit à la
«Library of Congress» de Washington où il a eu le privilège de pouvoir
jouer sur 4 Stradivarius de la prestigieuse collection d'instruments de
cette institution.
L’ intention du quatuor aron est de se consacrer particulièrement aux
œuvres de la «Deuxième École de Vienne» (il a à son répertoire
l’intégrale des œuvres pour quatuor à cordes de Schönberg, Berg, Webern
et Eisler), sans pour autant délaisser le répertoire traditionnel; cela
a conduit le Centre Arnold Schönberg de Vienne à le nommer «Quatuor en
résidence" et à lui confier de 1998 à 2008 une série de concerts
annuelle dans laquelle le quatuor a présenté de grandes œuvres du 18ème,
19ème et 20ème siècle.
Le premier CD, sorti en 1999, contient des oeuvres de Schubert, Mozart,
Schönberg et Ullmann. En février 2002, un concert à Vienne fut
retransmis en direct dans la plupart des pays d’Europe dans le cadre de
l’Union Européenne de Radiodiffusion.
Le quatuor aron a enregistré un CD consacré à Schubert (Quatuor «Rosamunde»
et Quatuor de «La Jeune Fille et la Mort», Preiser Records 90549), ainsi
qu’une intégrale des œuvres pour quatuor à cordes d’Arnold Schönberg (Preiser
Records 90572) qui a reçu plusieurs prix et qui est d’ores et déjà
considéré comme version de référence par les discophiles.
Au printemps 2006, le quatuor aron a enregistré le quintette de César
Franck avec Philippe Entremont au piano pour la maison «Cascavelle». L'
intégrale des quatuors et le quintette de Korngold (avec le pianiste
Henri Sigfridsson) sortira en 2009 pour le label allemand cpo.
Depuis 2008, le quatuor aron assure la direction artistique du "Kammermusik
Festival Schloss Laudon Wien", un nouveau festival annuel qui se tient
dans un des plus beaux palais aux alentours de la capitale autrichienne.
